Vessels in the Savannah Harbor

Historical and Genealogical

Savannah was a major trading center for Europe and the West Indies. During the 18th and 19th centuries, many vessels delivered new emigrants. Philadelphia, Charleston, and Savannah were the principal port cities during Colonial times.

Chatham County records survived and are a rich resource for finding early emigrants to Colonial Georgia. The old wills and estates contain valuable information about family members. It is worth the time to read some of these old wills, and one learns the details of colonial life, as well as the names of kinfolks in surrounding areas and Europe. If you do not know who your ancestors married, here is an opportunity to learn the name in the estate receipts and annual reports.

See what is available online at georgiapioneers.com in the Chatham County records.
