Finding English Ancestors IS EASY
But it is time-consuming. One must research the Parish Registers to find the appropriate names. The first English settlement in Virginia was in Jamestown in 1607. After that, the colony was replenished by Englishmen throughout the 17th century.
The recent collection of the English Parish Register and Old Wills will greatly assist in locating one’s ancestors back to about 1400 or 1500. Although the Great Fire in London in September 1666 destroyed records, a few records dating to 1300 survived!
The task is to search the indexes of voluminous Parish Registers. Since these are in book format, it is easy to type “find” (a name) and proceed from there. If you are already a member of georgiapioneers.com, you will find a link to the books in England.
The same link may be used to discover the newly added collection of “German books.”
Note: Parish Registers list all family members, baptisms, births, marriages, and deaths. Researching in the 16th and 17th centuries connects one to many families, public monarchs, and nobility! You have doubtless heard it said that many Americans descend from King Edward I. This is true.
